Monk Marathon

by Staff Writer

Yesterday, Cold Case and Without A Trace were not on, but USA ran a Monk marathon all day.

I find myself enjoying the show more and more. Dale the Whale made a repeat appearance, only this time it was Tim Curry playing him. I thought Alan Arkin did a good job, Tim Curry has a knack with evil characters.

Tonight’s episode is new and is going to revolve around the murder of a lawyer that requires consideration for the death penalty.

Will I watch it? I’m still not sure. I realize that CBS felt the personal angle of the show was not to their liking, but since they killed off Annabeth’s husband, I think the show has lost part of its appeal. I liked that aspect and really miss it.

Black Friday

by Staff Writer

Here is something that drives me nuts at this time of the year.

I don’t care WHAT you are buying, Christmas is becoming my least favorite time of the year. I do not venture out on Black Friday. I far prefer to get my shopping done before Halloween. As the news comes on, it only reaffirms my beliefs. People need to look at themselves and explain their behavior. I’m watching Boston television and watching a fist fight break out because one older man waiting in line had another item that some younger guy wanted. This is just unbelievable. This is not what Christmas should be about. NO ITEM is worth that. If your child really wants an item, explain to them that sometimes we have to wait.

People getting shot while waiting for Wii’s. People fighting over expensive gaming systems. It’s all so wrong.

My own experience… I went to Christmas Tree Shops three weeks ago to get some items for stocking stuffers and had my 10 year old with me. This kid is obviously too big for a cart, yet she had three people (an elderly woman and then two women I would have placed in there mid-30s) hit her with carts. She wasn’t in the way. She had hold of my cart due to the crowds. Another woman told my thirteen year old to keep walking because he was not moving as quickly as she wanted to move. I don’t have the patience for people like this, so I confronted her and told her that he couldn’t keep walking because he had been told to stay with me. Her response, “Oh, I didn’t realize he had a parent with him. I figured he was another local kid wasting time in store because he had nothing better to do.” Again, I’m shocked and really sad at the state of the shopping world at this time of the year.

I also remember last year in Walmart - watching an older man get pushed in line so hard that he fell and broke his arm. It was a young college aged woman who pushed him because she was in a hurry to get outside to get better cell phone service. She never even stopped to see if he was okay. My husband wound up taking a bruise to his calf because that is where the man’s head hit, but as he told the man, he was happy to take the bruise knowing that at least the man hadn’t smashed his head open on the concrete floor. The fact that this man broke his arm, however, still appalls me.

If shopping is so stressful that you have to take out your angst on kids or other adults - save your shopping for the weeknights when stores are quieter. Or, don’t go out at all. Stay home and get onto your computer. How can these people expect polite kids and fellow shoppers when they don’t demonstrate it themselves?

Here is my wish for Christmas - how about if everyone who goes out treats everyone with respect and then asks them to pass it on. Dignified adults shopping at Christmas without the fighting,

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Off the topic…

by Staff Writer

My friend and I took off and went out Christmas shopping last night. Stores are much more tolerable on a weeknight. I’d attempted to go out on Saturday and was subjected to grown men in Legend of Zelda costumes singing Spongebob songs. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite as amusing.

Whoever you guys were, I hope you didn’t freeze too much while waiting for your Wii, but I have to say that grown men who appear to be in their mid to late 30s who are dressed up as different characters from Zelda may need to get lives. However amusing it was, I find the whole dressing up and camping out to get my hands on an overpriced video system is rather sad. Even my video game loving children thought that was a little ridiculous. It’s funny how many people seem to let their lives revolve around these games!

Tonight’s Television

by Staff Writer

Given the impending holiday, many stations are airing holiday shows. There are a few new shows on tonight.

Day Break is new. Day three occurs and the contents in the mailbox seem to be an integral part of tonight’s show.

Criminal Minds finds Gideon interrogating a terror suspect. Things are not looking good when the team stumbles across a major component to a chemical weapon attack. To unravel the case, Gideon and the new agent (Paget Brewster) must get the suspect to talk.

The Nine is new - JoBeth Willams has a guest role tonight.

CSI: NY is also new. The team investigate the murder of a wealthy man who’s body isn’t the only thing found inside the car the victim was about to give his daughter for her Sweet 16.

Jerry Lewis Law & Order: SVU

by Staff Writer

I finally saw the episode that was reaired this weekend. Wow! Jerry Lewis tackles a whole new role.

In this episode a mother and daughter are found raped and murdered. The girl is no more than 10 and both have been bitten and tortured. Jerry Lewis plays a homeless man who has ties to the girl, as she would sneak him sandwiches. He is brought in and questioned, only from the interview it appears he may have Alzheimer’s.

I was shocked when Munch (not sure if I’m spelling it correctly, but with a sleeping toddler laying across my lap, I’m trying to get this done before he wakes) revealed that the homeless man was his uncle. Didn’t see that coming!

To me, the murder takes the backseat to Jerry Lewis and his depression that causes his issues. They keep working the murder and do eventually catch the bad guy, but I guess I was disappointed at how low key that aspect of the case turned out to be. The only reason they catch him is because of the bite marks he left on the bodies.

Holiday

by Staff Writer

With the holiday upon us all, television watching might be limited. I know with my friend living here for another two weeks, I’m watching less TV than usual. I did catch Ghost Whisperer, but it’s not exactly a crime drama.

I did catch part of Monk and had to laugh. If you’ve never seen Monk decorate a Christmas tree, you really need to catch that episode. He’s more meticulous than anyone I’ve ever seen. And I thought my husband was bad!

Kid Friendly Mysteries

by Staff Writer

When I was growing up, we had Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys… Now my kids are into mysteries but for kid shows it is an area that is really lacking.

With so many mystery book series available, I am really surprised that they do not have more for the tweens who might not be ready for CSI and the likes.

Tonight’s CSI

by Staff Writer

Identical twins are murdered at almost the same time - yet they didn’t know each other at all. Coincidence? We’ll find out!

Last Night’s Bones

by Staff Writer

I’m still amused that I now enjoy the show more than the book series, and last night’s episode was one I was eagerly awaiting. Finally, there is some growth with Angela! I’m glad she realized that she was about to let a good thing slip away!

Real World Crime Drama

by Staff Writer

O.J. Simpson - he’s coming back onto the scene with his new FICTIONAL book that details how he would have killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend IF he had. Nice way to make money off their deaths… I’m so sick of people making money from other’s misfortunes. I’d like to think he’s donating all the proceeds to some charity fund, but I know it won’t happen.

NCIS

by Staff Writer

Last night’s episode threw me… I’m a big fan of Abby, and was so psyched when she met that guy at the trade show. It seemed they clicked. Then when he came out from behind the booth and he was a person with “dwarfism” (I’m not sure this is the current politically correct term, but it’s the last one I knew was PC so no offense was meant if it is not PC now) it seems so right, but up until then I’d never have guessed. Great job casting! I’d like to see him hook up with Abby!

I’m going to try to post again today, but somethings up with either this site or my internet because it took a few tries to get this page to load.

Fran Drescher

by Staff Writer

Has anyone missed Fran’s very nasal voice? Good news for you then! She’s on Law & Order CI this week. While I have never had problems with her as an actress, her voice certainly takes some getting used to.

Justice - going, going, gone.

by Staff Writer

Looks like Justice is gone… despite the fact that the show is pretty good, Fox moving it to Monday night opposite Two and a Half Men wasn’t a great move. Once again, Fox hasn’t learned anything about finding a suitable time frame for a show.
