Lie To Me Renewed?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

The procedural crime series, “Lie To Me”, is rumored to be getting a second season and a new show runner! Shawn Ryan, the man who is behind the very captivating series, The Shield and The Unit, has supposedly taken over for the second season.

I haven’t had the chance to watch the other half of Lie To Me lately (had only watched up to the sixth episode), but it is something I do intend to finish this summer. With this news, I’m more excited about where the show is heading. I’m a big fan of The Shield and would hope Lie To Me improves for the next season.

Entertainment Weekly via Ausiello reports all of the changes on his blog.

Which Do You Like Better - The Mentalist or Lie To Me?

Monday, February 9th, 2009

340x 244.roth.tim.100606

The comparison can’t be help because these two shows operate in a similar manner. The show focuses on finding out when someone is lying based on behavioral patterns and body languages.

Except that Lie To Me appears to be more scientifically based, with the main character,  Dr. Cal Lightman, a very distinguished expert on his field, with degrees and academic backings to support his credence.

The Mentalist on the other hand, simply relies on Patrick Jane’s expertise to read people. If I remember correctly, his character was even a former scam artist, wasn’t he?

Before the Lie To Me panel last month these are what its actors and series creators have said of their “rival” program:

  • When asked the inevitable question of how Fox’s “Lie to Me” compares to CBS’ similarly themed freshman hit “The Mentalist,” producers aren’t shy. “Go at it boys,” says Tim Roth. “The difference between the two shows is that our show is based on actual science, while ‘Mentalist’ is, I think, more of a scam,” says actor Brendan Hines. “And it’s based on the most cutting-edge research used by the TSA and homeland security,” adds creator Samuel Baum. “What you see on the show is based on real science and techniques that are simple and visible to the naked eye that people can bring into their real life.” Adds Roth, “I haven’t seen ‘The Mentalist.’ But I’ve heard about it because [the other panel members] talk about it. I don’t think we need to get too worried about it really.”

So, which one do you like better?

Lie To Me airs on Fox, Wednesdays. The Mentalist airs on CBS, Tuesdays.

Lie To Me Ratings Pick, Life Returns

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

lifeI’ve yet to watch the latest episodes of these two programs this week. But the ratings have returned and it seems Lie To Me is holding its steady place for the last three weeks now.

The crime drama is averaging 13Million viewers with 4.7M in its demographic share. It is doing very well as a lead in to an episode of American Idol. It has even tied Lost in its ranking. It did help that this week, Criminal Minds was on hiatus.

Over at NBC, another crime drama series returns to steady ratings. Life, which is on the verge of being pulled out because of ratings, earned 6.7 Million viewers as it returns to Wednesday nights, following a hiatus last December.

Lie To Me Debut Does Well Against Lost

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

It seems Lie To Me was well received by viewers last night, as it premiered its pilot episode against Lost. It did not nearly beat the competition, though but based on Total Viewers, the new crime drama shows a bit of promise.

Lie To Me

Monday, January 12th, 2009

tim roth Premiering this January on Fox is this crime series that may be a bit compared to CBS’ The Mentalist.

Lie To Me stars Tim Roth, who plays a behavioral scientist, an expert at telling if a person is lying…among other things. He doesn’t work for the police force, as I understand it. But he runs an independent company that helps police and the authorities catch the perpetrators.

I had the pleasure of checking the pilot episode before it begins on January 21st. The story is alright and plot development is tight but there is really nothing new this series offers. I can see myself tuning to this weekly, though. If only to get more pointers about reading someone’s body language.

Tim Roth, as the very observant Dr. Cal Lightman, does his job of acting pretty well and as expected. The series also stars Kelli Williams (The Practice) as Cal Lightman’s right hand person.

Lie To Me is based on Paul Ekman, the noted psychologist and body language expert.
